Phase 2 Testing - Fabric Penetration Loads
So, the next obvious question is: Does our SCA armor protect us from penetration of a broken or untipped blade at these loads? Anecdotally it does; we have no reports of penetrations. So, can we reduce our requirements safely?
To answer these questions, I designed a new arm for the machine (very similar to Don Tivar's original design). Candidate armor swatches will be clipped to the open area and hit with a variety of untipped or broken blades. The maximum possible load will occur just as the swatch is penetrated by the blade.
This design is currently untested. I have some concern that the vertical arm behind the sample may be a problem and require some redesign.
